Fire Weather Forecast for Northeast and North Central Colorado
National Weather Service Denver/Boulder CO
245 PM MDT Thu May 16 2024

.DISCUSSION...Tonight and Friday...High pressurealoft will track
across Colorado tonight and Friday bringing mostly dry
conditions. A few showers/storms to the higher terrain south of
I-70. Temperatures warm up Friday with 70s in the foothills to 80s
across the plains. West winds increase Friday afternoon in the
mountains, foothills, and far northern Colorado with gusts to 35
mph possible.

LONG TERM DISCUSSION...Friday night through Tuesday...Much above
normal temperatures are expected Friday through Sunday with
isolated to scattered showers and storms possible over the
forecast area over the weekend. Breezy conditions will be
localized to the higher mountain elevations Friday into Saturday.
By Sunday, winds will strengthen region wide ahead of an
approaching trough, and could extend into Monday, with areas of
low humidity below 15% likely persisting locally. Fire weather
concerns during this period will be largely constrained by fuel
susceptibility. The areas with greater potential for observing
meteorological Red Flag conditions would be Park County, the
southern foothills, and Lincoln County. Precipitation chances are
expected to increase early next week with cooler temperatures by
Tuesday due to the passage of a cold front. Precipitation is also
expected to increase during this period in the form of showers and
thunderstorms. However, there is quite a bit of uncertainty in
how strong and widespread the activity will be. Smoke dispersal is
expected to remain favorable for essentially all areas through at
least Monday.

...Thunderstorms imply strong gusty erratic winds... ...All
surface winds are 20-Foot...10-Minute averaged winds... ...CWR is
Chance of Wetting Rain - 0.10 inch or more liquid... ...24 HR
Trends are based on averages over the respective zone groups and
may not match the actual forecast values shown in those groups...
